Wedding of the Century
Well, well, well. It looks like I missed quite a party this weekend! Living in Florida has it's downfalls...like missing out on F U N weddings. Doesn't Linny look cute? Along with her are my friend Melissa (center) and Linny's friend Yvonne (left). Lin, this is yet another attempt to bribe people to look at my site by featuring pics of you. Will it work? I think we still only have about 4 readers. I told dad that he'd better get on the bandwagon here and start posting. He is Mr. Internet-mania...
Today was a lovely day at work, the girls were pretty well behaved, and I taught a class on nutrition. I am not really the best person to teach nutrition as my diet is far from healthy. Today I had brownies for breakfast, chinese food for lunch and a DQ blizzard for dinner. Hmm...Yeah I should definitely NOT be teaching nutrition classes. Then we all piled into a school van to get fingerprinted because there is the new law called the Jessica Lundsford Act (remember that little girl who was kidnapped in March?) and the law says everyone working in a school has to be fingerprinted by the Department of Education. I've already been fingerprinted by the Sheriff's Office but I guess that isn't good enough. So anyway we squished in this van like it was a clown car and drove downtown and when we got there...their computers were down and we couldn't get fingerprinted. So that was a really productive afternoon. We ended up going back to work with no ink on our fingers. Maybe tomorrow we will get luckier.
I'm about halfway through the process of applying to UCLA for graduate school. Did I mention that I want to go to UCLA for grad school? I found a program there called Masters of Social Welfare. I'd be concentration on Organizations, Community and Policy. My eventual goal would be to run my own non-profit organization. It looks like a great program...now I just have to ace my GRE's and write a very impressive personal and professional statement. Yikes! You might be thinking, why UCLA? Since when are you going to California? Well, nothing is for sure yet, of course, but there is a good chance Rob will get stationed in Southern California in the spring so UCLA would be a great location for me to be in school. Plus I LOVE THE PROGRAM and I have wanted to go to UCLA since I was 15. I've been rejected from there once, I'm not sure I can take it again. My application needs to ROCK.
Any ideas on why I think I'd make a good social worker???

Hi Amy,
I'm thinking of all the jobs that you had while in college...working at Shriner's, BHIV, Acorn, your motivation for working at those places is why you'd make a good social worker. You're concerned with the welfare of people who do not have the benefit of living in affluent neighborhoods, or living with diseases or physical limitations that don't allow them what we would call a "normal" life.
Same with your job at Kaboom and the girls' school. You are looking out for those who need extra care and help in life. You can jazz it up with the appropriate vocabulary - but let them know what's in your heart, your desire to run a non-prof org. And if UCLA doesn't take you, it's THEIR loss. You WILL succeed in getting a masters and in reaching your goals with or without them...just might have to take a different road to get there. Nonetheless I do hope you get accepted and ace the GRE.
Keep us the studying and you should do just fine.
Emilie says, "Hi Amy!" She's reading over my shoulder.
I have confidence in you honey and you will be a great social worker, and you ARE a great social worker to all those whose lives (I almost typed "livers") you have touched so far. (Don't touch any livers though. Haha) Emilie says that's disgusting.
We love you (and Linny) and are very proud of both of you. Linny, you do look very cute in the new photo - love the dress.
See ya later. Love you, Auntie J.
More Hot Tomales'!!!!!!
Hot Tamales?? What???
Ame, I'm so excited that you are applying to UCLA... I have some GRE study books growing cobwebs at the GVC if linny wants to pick them up (jk, i'm sure you have your own). There are some good essay "examples" on the internet- that's a good way to start and how i organized mine. You'll totally get in b/c you've done so much social work already! Good luck on another move!
Ame
